The nature of Hope
Hope was a dangerous thing. Hope was a beautiful thing. You can always take one thing and look at it however you want to. Either you let it disappoint you, or you let it inspire you. Either you look for proofs to why it didn’t work, or you look for proofs to why it worked.
It was ironic, that once a man gets burnt, he becomes extremely cautious and then dismisses the fire, in turn dismissing all the good things that come with it.
Yuvi didn’t want to believe, he was afraid that if he believed, it would make him hope, and then it would all come crashing down. The constant trials of life made you like that. And he was afraid that the positive light inside him would die after that. If he truly hoped, and it didn’t come true, he would never hope again. And he was afraid of that, he was afraid that he would never dare to dream, and he would be like the countless people of the world, who looked ahead and saw nothing but darkness. He wanted to look ahead and see light, all the time.
He understood that, failures were common in life, it happened to everyone, every day, and you carry on. There was no one in this world who hadn’t failed, and he was going to fail a couple of times in life, that was a part of life, so why was he so afraid to hope? Once it didn’t work, didn’t mean all the times it wouldn’t. Then why was he so afraid? Why did he want to avoid pain? There was no gain without pain…He was scared to think about it. So scared. The possibility of his heart-breaking into million pieces, so what was he going to do? Never dream to protect himself? That was so much loss, for so little gain.
If he hoped, believed, he always stood to gain, much more than he lost. At least he won’t be a salve to regret. And for once he would have lived, taken the leap, had the courage to live. Sometimes, it only after you jump off, the wings start sprouting, even though the possibility of crashing to death exists, the joy of living, far outlives the drudgery of not living at all, even if it is for a day.
It was like the case of the sheep who spends its entire life fearing the wolves, only to be eaten by shepherd. It was like the case of the person, who fearing heartbreak, never opens their heart, never lets themselves be vulnerable, only to later realise that they never experienced the joy of loving. To experience the joy of loving, we have to agree to experience the pain of heartbreak. Rather live and love, than just live and never love.
Hope and faith are universal truths. It was the nature of the universe, it was a universal truth, that the sun goes down, the night falls, and then the sun comes up again, and life mimicked that truth. There are times when the nights will seem endless and the morning shall seem distant, but the sun will always rise, no matter what, it shall rise, it is the truth, it is the law of the universe. And throughout the night, the lone star shall keep you company, giving out light, giving out hope, and that is also a universal truth. It is always that darkness seems very dark, but even then the darkness doesn’t engulf the light emitted by the star, the star still stands out, the star makes the darkness beautiful. Hope can never be engulfed by sorrow; hope makes life beautiful. And one day the stars shall align in your favour, and signalling the dawn to come.
